Marieke Mutsaers, who was formerly a medical dietitian and beekeeper in the Netherlands, built up her experience in tropical beekeeping in Nigeria. She operated several large bee farms, producing honey and training apprentices, particularly women. She lectured for several years in an agricultural school in Nigeria and carried out research on seasonal development of honeybee colonies, melliferous flora, pollen analysis and pollination. At present she runs a company in apitherapy products, combining it with advisory work for the Dutch Programma Uitzending Managers (a 'job agency' for sending experienced managers abroad). She has given courses to beekeepers in Nigeria and Ethiopia, and she provided advisory services to beekeepers in India, Indonesia, Romania, Bulgaria and Ukraine.
